Please vote for new Executive Committee members!
November 11, 2004
Dear ISGO membership:
I am writing to solicit nominations for the role
of Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Structural
and Functional Genomics.
The Journal of Structural and Functional Genomics
is an increasingly important venue for publishing results of structural
genomics methods development and
results. The journal is publised by Kluwer publishing,
which also publishes several hundred other specialized journals. The home
page of JSFG is:
http://www.kluweronline.com/issn/1345-711X.
JSFG was founded by Prof. Yoji Arata, as a primarily
electronic venue for publishing scientific results in the fields of
structural and functional genomics. Papers have been published in JSFG by
leaders of the structural genomics community, and are widely cited. The
journal has an expanding readership, which accesses papers largely by pdf
downloads from the web site.
Some 18 months ago, Prof. Arata stepped down from his position as
Editor-in-Chief, for health reasons. The editorial functions of the
journal have been maintained by the Associate Editors, and by Peter Butler,
the publisher, with help from the Editorial Board and the scientific community.
At this point, we need to identify a leader to replace Prof. Arata's role
as Editor-in-Chief. It is suggested that this leadership should be taken
by a member of the International Structural Genomics Organization (ISGO)
with strong international reputation and
a commitment to the emerging field of structural genomics. In this way,
the JSFG could also provide a venue for communicating ideas and policies
developed by the ISGO.
I plan to convene a meeting of Editorial Board members attending the
upcoming ICSG2004 conference in Washington, D.C. At this time we will
discuss, and hopefully identify, a new Editor-in-Chief. Your input to this
discussion is most welcome.
Please send your thoughts and/or nominations directly to meat:

Sincerely
Gaetano Montelione
Assoc. Editor, JSFG
